Racial and Social Justice Committee (RSJC)
Mission statement:  The Butte County Legal Profession values diversity, social justice and equality.  The Racial and Social Justice Committee  of the BCBA is determined to be ever vigilant in upholding these values.
Committee  Members: Anu Chopra (Co-Chair); Elizabeth Latimer (Co-Chair), Ron Reed, Michael Ramsey, Saul Henson, Michael Shepherd, Jennifer Hafner and Bonnie Persons.



Our annual business meeting will be held on December 16 at Cal Northern School of Law at 12 noon.  We will not have a meeting in November.

At the December 16 meeting we will elect officers for the next year.  Those selected by the Board are: Anu Chopra for president, Michael Shepherd as vice president and Chance Hansen for Secretary/Treasurer.  Additional nominations can be made at the meeting or prior to the meeting by email.  Votes of the members present at the meeting will determine the outcome.  In other words you have to be present to vote.

A report on the BCBA finances will be given and the members will be given an opportunity to consider a grant of a scholarship for Cal Northern School of Law.



Probationary tenure-track assistant professor opening 

The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice at California State University, Chico, is searching for a probationary tenure-track assistant professor in legal studies to start August 18, 2020. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, excellent teachers, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success.
 
The minimum requirements for appointment to this position are: a Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school, current membership in the State of California Bar or membership within two years of the start of employment, ability to teach courses in clinical legal education, The Community Legal Information Clinic, legal research and writing, and the capacity to engage in publishable academic and/or legal/professional research.

Cal Northern School of Law in partnership with the Butte County Bar Association reached out to those affected by the devastating Camp Fire with a free legal information clinic to help with the myriad of issues they may be facing, including probate, real estate, insurance coverage, criminal defense and the like.

Pursuant to California Rules of Court 2.250 – 2.261, Civil Code of Procedure Sections 1010.6, and Standing Order BCSC 2017-SO-04, as revised, the Superior Court of California, County of Butte, requires electronic filing (eFiling) in the following case types (except for In Pro Per cases):

• Juvenile Dependency matters (W&I 300) – mandatory 
• All Family Law matters – mandatory
• Unlimited Civil matters – mandatory 
• All other Civil matters – mandatory
• All Probate matters – mandatory

New Court House is up and running at 1775 Concord Ave., Chico, CA 95928


On February 22, 2016, Butte County Superior Court went “live” with a long awaited online Case Management System, improving access to case information for lawyers and litigants alike.
